Mission - exercise
Here’s an exercise that will make you think about the purpose of any work you might do.
I want you to imagine that I am a magician
I have the power to make sure your career – whatever direction it takes - generates enough income for you to do the things that are important to you. So you won’t need to worry about money ever again.
I have one and only one condition for granting this to you:
You must do whatever needs doing that you are 'well placed to do'.
By ‘whatever needs doing’, I mean something that you’ve seen that you feel needs to be done in order to make the world a better place. It needn’t be a huge thing, in fact the smaller and more specific it is, the more likelihood of it being something you could actually do.
By well placed to do, I mean it must somehow fit your talents, knowledge, motivation, and current situation. Any of us could decide, for example, that school meals need improving. But we would be much better placed to do something about this if we were already well known and regarded as knowing something about food.
You must do whatever needs doing that you are well placed to do.
Now – what is it?
Give yourself some time to think about this and write any ideas in your workbook. If you find this difficult, you might want to look at some prompt questions on the next page that some people have found useful.
