A choice of exercises
It’s time to continue your career story – to add to it. This time you’ll write it into the future.
Of course, the real story isn’t written, it’s acted. You don’t just write it, you have to do it, so you may want to approach it differently to the previous exercise. However there are two ways of continuing this narrative approach that people have found useful:
either:
- to write out what happens next – the next chapter.
or
- to write a long-term vision or goal to be worked toward
- a chapter some way ahead.
It's likely you'll feel an immediate preference of which of these you'd rather to do. It may be that one would be much easier to do than the other. We saw earlier that people are very different in the ways they deal with the future, with planning, and with keeping options open and dealing with one step at a time. It's completely up to you which exercise you choose.
