Getting what you want

Whatever you decide to do, getting what you want will require effective action on your part. First you’ll have to understand the most effective ways of operating - of getting work or business - in today’s labour market. And you’ll need to be good at convincing others, both in writing and in person. Even if you start your own business, you’ll soon find that potential backers, partners, even those who lease you premises, will want to see a written business plan and maybe a CV too.

This section looks at some useful approaches and techniques. It’s assumed you have already done a fair bit of work in producing application forms and CVs and know the basics of written applications. Likewise, you’ll have attended interviews and given presentations as part of getting into work. These topics won’t be rehearsed here – instead we’ll ‘do something different’ and look beyond the basics.
