Your significant others

In the last section, we looked at how spending more time on your career change will mean less time for some other parts of your life. Often that means less time for other people, at least for a while.

Whilst the people in your life can be a hugely valuable source of support and resource, it’s important to be realistic and also recognise that they might not welcome change and could present obstacles. The changes you want to make might affect them, in ways they didn’t expect or don’t approve of.

Sometimes people find that career or educational success can be as problematic as lack of success. Those who are the first to attend university among their friends and family, for example, often find that those around them find it difficult to deal with.

The next exercise asks you to consider the implications of career change for those around you.
